Why I started Ripple

Around Thanksgiving 2025, doctors diagnosed my brother Julian with T-ALL, a type of leukemia. I was 15 and he was 20. Since then, Julian has received more than 50 bags of blood. I remember watching him receive it. Each bag came from a donor we will never meet. I felt like I couldn't do anything except pray and trust the doctors' hands. Then I thought of Ripple. I haven't donated blood myself yet, but I can ask my friends to give, and they can ask theirs. Julian is still fighting. His case is rare, and he still needs blood and platelets. The blood you give goes to patients like him.

My daughter is O negative

She was born early and needed a transfusion in her first week. Universal donors kept her alive. I cannot give O negative, but I can give, and I can bring people who can.

For my grandfather

He needed four units after surgery. Four strangers he never met. I give so somebody else's grandfather gets his four.

Platelets on a Tuesday

Cancer patients need platelets constantly and they only last five days on the shelf. I do it on Tuesdays. It is the most useful two hours of my week.

The chain in my group chat

Six of us from the same class. One person went, posted the code, and by the end of the month all six had given. That is the ripple.

It took me twenty minutes

I put it off for years because I thought it would be a whole afternoon. Twenty minutes, a juice box, and I was back at work. Now I go every two months.
